Fossil
Conventionally refined from petroleum. Proven, from 95 to 120+ RON. Leaded or unleaded. Standard in most series.
Bio-based
Produced from biomass. E10, E85, HVO. NASCAR has been running Green E15 with 15% bioethanol for years.
Synthetic
Power-to-Liquid, e-fuels. Climate-neutral in cycle, drop-in capable. Mandatory in Formula 1 from 2026.
Hybrid
Blends of fossil and renewable components. Bridge technology with growing market share.

All racing fuels fall under hazmat class 3 (flammable liquids). Transport requires ADR-certified drivers, UN-compliant packaging and correct placarding. HAZMAT surcharges in Europe are typically 200–250 € per shipment.

Formula 1
From 2026, mandatory 100% sustainable fuels. Shell, Aramco, Petronas and ExxonMobil as team partners.
Exclusively Sunoco Green E15 — 15% zero-carbon bioethanol. All three national series since 2004.
Le Mans
TotalEnergies supplies 100% renewable fuels. Le Mans consumes approx. 280,000 liters per 24h race.
Coryton as official fuel partner from 2025. Sustainable e-fuels in use.
VP Racing as exclusive partner from 2025. Top Fuel: 90% nitromethane + 10% methanol.
Panta and Brava Fuel as CIK-FIA partners from 2025. Unleaded, Appendix J compliant.
